ABOUT THIS PROJECTWhat it took
A custom home in Eaton, built entirely from natural materials. Solid wood carries the walls, floors and ceilings in place of drywall, and the framing is left exposed throughout.
We insulated it with sheep's wool instead of foam or fiberglass. Wool holds moisture without trapping it, so the walls can breathe instead of sealing everything in. It doesn't off-gas the way foam does, so the air inside stays cleaner, and it's a better sound buffer too.
None of that was the easy way to build this house. It would have been faster to insulate with foam and close every wall in with sheetrock like most homes in this valley. We didn't, because a house this size is small enough that every material choice shows, and we wanted the ones here to be honest about what they are.
